Currently Reading
The Kite Runner
By Khaled Hosseini

I just finished reading The Kite Runner.  It was beautiful..

It reminded me of how little I really know about the world..and how much I hunger for greater understanding. . .

of people,

of nations,

of beauty,

of suffering,

of forgiveness.

"Then I realized something: that last thought had brought no sting with it.  Closing [the] door, I wondered if that was how forgiveness budded, not with the fanfare of epiphany, but with pain gathering its things, packing up, and slipping away unannounced in the middle of the night."  - from The Kite Runner(Khaled Hosseinni)

I've stopped through several times today. Each time I am reminded that there is so much to learn about the person next door;the person rushing by on the street;the man behind the counter. Yes! to understand it globally is necessary. To act on it globally is required, but how do we do that if we can't get it right with the person in our own neighborhood?

Forgiveness is what naturally settles in after you've truly, truly let go of the idea of peeling your enemy's skin off in strips.

Forgiveness is the higher way.

I love my job.. :)

Sally - I agree that the people we are immediately surrounded by need our compassion as well as those across the globe who we may never meet personally.  How to start?  Where to seek greater understanding and empathy?  I think we start wherever we stand..and with humility, realizing how much we need to learn about other humans.   Near or far?  Both.

TropicalCow - cute 'n' scary, that's what you are.  Love ya. ;)

Deana and Gwen, the book is worth the read.  :)  Jiggaddijigg(that's how I'm pronouncing it lately, cuz it's fun) - hi.  :)

Katie, glad to see you here!

..long ago (for one year), Lynn was my english teacher and he was working at the school in another capacity..can't remember his title..I *do*, however, remember playing human Clue in that big old building for a youth event.  Andy and Lynn never broke character as we questioned them..they were over-the-top, sinister, aloof, and goofy.  It was great.

the family reunion was nice although there wasn't too much mixing with the other families.  i heard a lot of interesting stories.  the excerpt is from Frankenstein, the story is much more philosophical than i imagined and i felt more sympathy for the monster than for the creator.
